WYRowisko 2026

How do you show competitors the course of rally day and their class requirements in one place?

The situation before

WYRowisko is an off-road rally in Bełchatów run by the Bełchatowska Grupa Offroadowa WYR 4x4 club. Its 13th edition fell on 26 September 2026. We were a partner of this edition and, as part of the partnership, built a new rally site.

The club's previous site ran on WordPress. Its menu covered entries, rallies, a gallery, the club and contact details, and the list of registered crews sat on a separate page. Reports and announcements covered the 2023 and 2024 editions, while 2025 was represented by an announcement and results as images.

The new site had to carry this content over and bring the rules, class requirements, crew list and record of past editions into one place. Its readers are competitors, fans and families, sponsors, the town and the media, and a competitor holding a phone should quickly find what concerns their class.

Questions the project had to answer

  • How do you keep the crew list current without retyping registrations by hand?
  • How do you change the first screen before the rally, on the day and afterwards without manual edits?

Scope of work

  • Visual design and build of the rally site
  • Content carried over from the club's previous site
  • Rally day roadbook with explained terms
  • Requirements for six classes and a comparison
  • Crew list refreshed from the registration page
  • Rules on the site with a table of sections
  • Edition archive and photo gallery
  • Redirects from old addresses

How we did it

  1. A roadbook, not a list of points

The home page is laid out like the rally route, and its sections carry the numbers of successive checkpoints. The rally-day roadbook has nine rows with tulip diagrams and distances. They run from registration and sealing at the base through the convoy, special stage and timed route to the results.

A trip meter in the corner of the screen counts the distance as the page scrolls, and on a phone it becomes a bar at the bottom. Terms from the rules, such as PKP, OES, a passage trial or a seal, have pop-up explanations. Boards in a horizontal pass show the club's terrain of sand, mud and water.

Number plates with series numbers present the six classes, and each has a panel of requirements for the vehicle, winch, helmet, body and cage, axles and tyres. A separate classes page gathers the requirements shared by all vehicles, a comparison of the six classes and a list of prohibitions linked to sections of the rules.

  2. Crew list and rules

Entries reach the crew list straight from the club's sign-up page, and the list refreshes at most every half hour. The organiser keeps taking entries as before, and if the sign-up page does not respond, the list shows a copy stored on the site. A separate entries page shows their status and deadlines, with links to the rules.

Each class has its own table with a count of entries against the limit. The chosen class goes into the page address, so a link to a single class list can be shared. The search finds a crew even when the name is typed without Polish characters.

The rules sit on the site as a faithful copy of the organiser's document, with its numbering and spelling. They have a table of sections, notes in the margin on wide screens and a PDF to download. The contact page answers common questions with links to specific sections.

The map of the rally base, in the site's colours, loads just before it scrolls into view and leaves one-finger scrolling to the page. Its buttons open navigation in Google Maps and Waze.

  3. A first screen that follows the date

The first screen changes by itself with the date. Before the start it counts down, on rally day it shows the edition under way with a link to the Facebook event, and afterwards it thanks the participants. The crew list heading then changes to one naming the 2026 starters.

The archive covers the last three of twelve earlier editions, with the organiser's reports quoted with their source, links to the local press and photos. We transcribed the 2025 podium in each of the six classes from the results tables into a table on the site, with the full results alongside as images. The gallery groups photos into sets from 2022 to 2024 and the club, with credits for the photographers.

Next.js prepares the pages in advance and Vercel serves them, while photos use the light AVIF format in several widths, so a phone downloads smaller files. The old addresses of the reports, club and crew list pages redirect to their new counterparts, so once the club's domain is switched, links to them will work.

Until then the technical address is kept out of search indexes, so that search engines do not see two copies of the site. Every page has its own title and description, and structured data marks up the sporting event and the club. A link sent in a messaging app shows a preview with a photo, the edition number, the date and the town.

Selected screens

  • The rally day roadbook: a table with total and partial distances, tulip diagrams and descriptions from the rally base through sealing, the briefing and the convoy to the special stage and the route, with a photo of phones running the trip meter app in a cockpit
  • The classes page: the heading Klasy i wymagania, six plates with series numbers from 201 to 301 and the start of the Turystyk class card with its requirements
  • The Piach board from the horizontal pass through the club's terrain: a photo of a car on a sandy descent, a description of the ground and a smaller photo of a quad on a steep slope
  • The rules on the site: the heading Regulamin WYRowiska 2026, a note on how they were transcribed, a PDF download button, the first section and a table of sections on the right
