/Problem
Until then, listings reached buyers solely through property portals, and the pace of publication and corrections depended on an outside system. A portal advert also leaves no room for an agent's own record. At MWW Mieszkanie that record carries weight, because the one-person agency in Lodz is run by a law graduate of the University of Lodz, a member of the agents' association, with over two hundred transactions handled personally. The brief covered the agency's own site with a property catalogue and a panel for adding and editing listings without outside help, plus a separate page for every service the agency offers.
/Approach
We split the build into three parts that can grow separately. The first is a site that sells the agency's services, the second a catalogue of properties, the third a panel for the day-to-day work. The pitch and the contact details stay up even when the catalogue is briefly unavailable, because the site does not need it in order to open. The services went onto six separate pages, one each for sales, rentals, cash buyout, new-build stock, off-market properties and valuation. Each answers a different question people type into a search box.
/Solution
The home page opens with photographs of Lodz tenement houses and a four-step walk through how a deal runs, and the photographs further down the page have separate, lighter versions for phones. The contact form keeps consents apart, one for e-mail and one for telephone contact, and submissions sent by automated tools never reach the inbox. The catalogue filters by location, price, floor area, number of rooms and property type, and the list can be ordered by lowest price, by highest price or by largest floor area. Every property gets its own readable address and a button that turns the listing into an A4 sheet to print before a viewing. In the panel it takes one form, photographs dropped in by dragging, a similar listing copied along with its pictures and a pin placed on a map. A half-finished form saves itself.
/Result
A new listing is online minutes after the photographs are taken, at any hour and with nobody outside involved. The list Google reads refreshes itself from whatever is currently on offer, so new properties reach the results without being submitted by hand. Photographs straight off a camera, however large, are reduced as they are uploaded, so a listing opens quickly on a phone too. Data stays on servers inside the European Union, and access to the panel belongs to the agency alone.
